Doyle was influential in establishing crime fiction as a widely read literary genre, and Holmes's name has since become a byword for fictional detective. Samuelson produced a silent film of the same name, with Holmes played by James Bragington. It was the first work of detective fiction to incorporate the magnifying glass as an investigative tool, and the first Sherlock Holmes story to be adapted for the screen: in 1914, G. He published four novels and more than 50 short stories starring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a British writer, best known for his thrilling stories about the adventures of the detective Sherlock Holmes. This first Holmes novel became the basis of the pilot episode of the extremely popular BBC show, 'Sherlock' (2010-2017), by 'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
